ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the first time in program history, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team was named a United Soccer Coaches Academic Team award winning program. In a release from the national coaches association, the Captains were listed among 889 total and 334 men's teams from around the nation to post a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in 2019-20.
Rising senior
Davis Pillow was named a United Soccer Coaches Division III Scholar All-Region pick as well as a CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient in 2019. He leads the charge by a Christopher Newport men's soccer team that posted a 3.28 cumulative GPA as a team.
Twenty of the CNU men's soccer players earned CAC All-Academic Team honors in 2019-20. The conference All-Academic Team honors student-athletes who finish the academic year with a 3.20 grade-point average or better while participating in one or more of the CAC Championship sports. With Pillow, a strong contingent of rising seniors were included featuring
Daniel Hulett,
Cooper Johnson, and
Zachary Washburn. All-American
Derek Cook was also a three-time selection to the CAC All-Academic Team.
The United Soccer Coaches College Men's Team Aademic Award was instituted in 1996; to qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible.
