Captains Top Guilford 20-8

GREENSBORO, N.C. - For the second day in a row, sophomore Ashton Marshall led the women's lacrosse team to a win scoring seven goals. The Captains defeated Guilford College 20-8 for a program-record nine consecutive wins.

Marshall scored the first two goals of the game in under three minutes of play for a quick 2-0 Captains' lead. Jessica Singer scored her first of four goals off a free position shot at 23:49. Guilford answered with two free position goals making it a 3-2 game.

The teams traded goals before the Captains went on a nine-goal streak to go up by 10 with four minutes remaining in the half. Guilford was able to score two in the last minute and a half for a 13-5 halftime score.

CNU continued to dominate play in the second half, scoring three goals, giving up one and then scoring three more. Guilford scored at the six minute mark to make it a 19-7 game. The last two minutes of play saw goals from each team for a 20-8 final score.

Also scoring for the Captains were Grace Valentine with four, Rachel Tomlinson with two and Kelly Lane, Katie Vu and Lauren King getting one each. Monica Evans led the team in ground balls with five while Becca Geist led with four caused turnovers.

Hannah Wilkerson made eight saves and allowed eight goals in her ninth win.

The Captains outshot Guilford 38-to-22 and had 23 ground balls to Guilford's 17. The Quakers led in draw controls winning 21 to CNU's eight.

The Captains are back home on Friday, March 30, as they host LaGrange College at 4:00pm.
