GREENSBORO, NC – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team won its second match in as many days by defeating Guilford 16-11 Sunday afternoon.

The Captains scored 10 of the game's first 12 goals and took an 11-4 lead at halftime. CNU scored six times during a 10-minute span in the first half.

Bonnie Hansen led Christopher Newport with four goals. Katie Doherty added three goals and two assists in the win. Christine Mike finished with three goals, Shayna Sargent added two goals and two assists and Brooke Falcke totaled two scores.

Lisa Thomson had one goal and one assist, Chrissy Rogers scored once and Kaitlin Quigley added an assist.

The Quakers out-shot CNU, 34-33. Gayle Robinson stopped 11 shots in goal for the Captains.

Christopher Newport finished with 41 ground balls in the win.

CNU improves to 2-1 on the year while Guilford, playing its season opener, falls to 0-1. The Captains return to action Saturday when they travel to USA South rival Ferrum with start time set for 4 pm.
