David Woodson finished second overall at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet.

Woodson And Wampler Qualify For Nationals

SEGUIN, TX – Christopher Newport cross country runners David Woodson and Amy Wampler both qualified for Nationals for the second straight year as they both finished high enough at the NCAA South/Southeaster Regionals Saturday hosted by Texas-Lutheran.
 
As a team, the men finished tied for 10th with VA Wesleyan with 223 points. Centre won the event with 56 points, followed by Emory with 73, Texas-Tyler with 98, Rhodes was fourth with 140 and Mary Washington rounded out the top five with 170 points.
 
Woodson finished with a time of 25:29, just six seconds behind Centre's Chase Wilson, who won the event. Corey Lofton finished 29th with a time of 26:46. Both were named All-South Region.
 
Woodson's second place finish was the highest for any CNU runner since Matt Sinclair in 2001. His time was also a new personal best.
 
Nate Huffman finished 55th in 27:36, Kyle Oakes was 64th with a time of 27:45 and Andrew Johnson was 73rd inn 28:08.
 
Oakes, Johnson and Lofton all set new personal bests as well.
 
On the women's side, CNU finished fifth with 196 points. Trinity (TX) placed first with 43 points, Emory finished second with 55 points, Washington & Lee was third with 108 points and Rhodes was fourth with 141 points.
 
Wampler placed 15th overall with a time of 23:21, which qualified her for nationals. Dira Hansen was 29th in 24:06, Megan Roberts placed 42nd with a time of 24:41, Brooke Rowe was 48th in 24:48 and Jade Zaharoff was 62nd in 25:25.
 
Hansen and Rowe also set new personal bests at the meet.
 
Woodson and Wampler will compete in next week's NCAA Nationals hosted by Hanover College in Hanover, IN.
