Cross Country Captures Men's And Women's USA South Titles

PLEASANT GARDEN, NC – Christopher Newport's men's and women's cross country squads swept the USA South Cross Country titles Saturday.
 
It's the 11th straight year the women's squad has won the event and the 16th time the men have captured the title.
 
On the men's side, the Captains finished one through three and five though eight.
 
David Woodson won the event with a time of 25:52. Corey Lofton finished with second with a time of 27:11 and Jack Tierney was third in 27:37. Nate Huffman placed fifth with a time of 27:55, Kyle Oakes was sixth in 27:58, and Andrew Johnson was seventh with a time of 28:09.
 
Woodson, Lofton, Tierney, Huffman, Oakes and Johnson were all named All-Meet.
 
CNU won the event with 17 points, followed by Shenandoah with 45 points. Ferrum was third with 99, Greensboro placed fifth with 112 and Methodist was fifth with 125.
 
On the women's side, Amy Wampler (23:57) won the event followed by her teammate, Dira Hansen who was second in 24:27. Megan Roberts was fifth with a time of 24:53, Jade Zaharoff was sixth in 25:01, Brooke Rowe was seventh with a time of 25:56 and Stephanie Raddatz was eighth in 25:58.
 
Wampler, Hansen, Roberts, Zaharoff, and Rowe were all named All-Meet.
 
Christopher Newport won the event with 18 points. Shenandoah was second with 60, followed by Mary Baldwin with 80, Meredith was fourth with 136, Greensboro placed fifth with 154 points, Methodist was sixth with 163 points and Averett finished seventh with 185 points.
 
The Captains return to action Saturday, November 15 when they head to Seguin, TX for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Meet.
