Amy Wampler was named USA South Runner of the Year.

Wampler, Woodson, Lofton And Maurer Take Home Major Cross Country Awards

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport cross country runners Amy Wampler, David Woodson and Corey Lofton along with Head Coach Keith Maurer took home end of the season awards given by the USA South.
 
Wampler was named Female Runner of the Year while Woodson was named the Male Runner of the Year. Lofton was named Men's Rookie Runner of the Year. Maurer was named the Men's and Women's Head Coach of the Year.
 
For Wampler, a junior from Spotsylvania, VA, it's the second straight year she has won the award. Her season-best time of 22:59 came at the Dickinson Long Course/Short Course Invitational where she finished fifth. She was also named USA South Runner of the Week three times. As a freshman, Wampler was also named Rookie of the Year.
 
Woodson, a Gloucester, VA native and a senior, also took home the award for the second straight year. His best time of 25:41 came at the Dickinson Invitational where he finished third overall. Woodson also was named Runner of the Week three times.
 
Lofton, a freshman from Vienna, VA, ran a season-best 26:56 at the Pre-National Meet for a 51st place finish. He too was named Rookie of the Week three times.
 
It's the sixth straight year Maurer was named the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
 
Earning First Team honors on the women's side, along with Wampler, were Stephanie Raddatz, Dira Hanson and Megan Roberts.
 
Taking home Second Team honors were Edie Nault and Brooke Rowe. Beth Bartelmes was named Third Team All-USA South. Rosie Loftus was named to the All-Sportsmanship squad.
 
On the men's side, Woodson and Lofton were joined on the First Team by Nate Huffman and Kyle Oakes.
 
Andrew Johnson and Jack Tierney were second team choices. Will Kirk was selected to the All-Sportsmanship team.
 
CNU returns to action this Saturday for the USA South Championship in Greensboro, NC.
