He earned second team All-American honors in three straight seasons while leading the team to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances including back-to-back National Quarterfinal finishes. During his tenure, the Captains won 72 games and went 24-2-1 in conference play. A three-time first team All-Region selection, Mattheisen was the 2008 USA South Rookie of the Year, 2009 USA South Player of the Year and a four-time All-Conference selection.

Mattheisen graduated as the most prolific scorer in Men's Soccer lore at CNU, setting program records for points (118), goals (51), and game-winning goals (15). He still ranks second in all three categories while remaining the program's all-time leader in games played, with 89.  During his tenure, he scored five goals and one assist in NCAA Tournament play and his freshman season ranks second all-time among Captains in points (35) and goals scored (16).
