One of the finest all-around players in CNU baseball history, Trae Bailey earned his spot among the program's elite after a record-breaking career at Captains Park. He became just the second player in the history of the USA South Athletic Conference to earn Conference Player of the Year twice after leading the Captains back to the NCAA Tournament in each his junior and senior seasons. A second team ABCA All-American in 2008, Bailey was also the Region Player of the Year that season and remains the only Captain in program history to earn Region Player of the Year honors. A two-time first team All-Region pick, Bailey was a four-time All-Conference and three-time All-State selection.
The honors came after one of the finest careers in any sport at CNU, as Bailey impressed both at the plate and in the field. The shortstop litters the Captains record book for both single season and career marks. He ranks fifth all-time in career batting average (.375), on-base percentage (.462), and slugging percentage (.599). He registered the third most hits in program history, with 219, and drove in more runs than all but one Captain, with 157. His name is etched among the top 10 in 13 separate career offensive records at CNU and is also one of the Captains' all-time leaders defensively with a record 489 assists while ranking second all-time with 93 double plays turned. During his All-American junior campaign, Bailey also set the program record with a 30-game hitting streak, shattering the previous mark of 24.
