One of the most dominant pitchers in Christopher Newport softball history, Kristen Rowe was at the forefront of the Captains' rise to dominance in the region and among the leaders in CNU's transition into a national power. Her career started out of the bullpen, where she set and still holds the NCAA record for saves in a season, with 14. Her rookie year, she made 31 appearances out of the bullpen with 14 saves, a 2.02 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work. The next season, she led the nation in saves again, adding six more in 19 appearances, tying what was then an NCAA career record of 20 saves. As a junior and senior, Rowe converted to a starter, and turned in two of the most impressive performances in program history, including the only 200-strikeout season by a pitcher in program history. By the end of her career, Rowe ranked second in career strikeouts, fourth in career wins and among the top ten in every pitching category statistically. Her career line is 50-17 with a 1.66 ERA, 22 saves and 382 strikeouts.

A two-time NFCA All-Region selection, Rowe was named the USA South Pitcher of the Year following her senior campaign, and earned Conference Tournament MVP honors in her junior year. She earned All-Conference honors three times, including back-to-back first team selections in 2009 and 2010. She was also named to the 2010 NCAA Regional Tournament Team after leading the Captains to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Finals.  Rowe pitched all 26 innings in the Regional, allowing just one earned run.
