Following a pair of strong seasons as a freshman and sophomore, Jessie Heavenrich hit a whole new level during her final two years at Christopher Newport. Earning second-team All-American honors during both campaigns, she was also named the USA South and Virginia State Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011. Heavenrich also earned first team All-Region honors twice and was the Conference Tournament MVP twice during her career as well. With the Hall of Famer as the floor general, the Captains posted an overall record of 145-22 with a perfect 72-0 mark in conference play. Heavenrich helped CNU reach four straight NCAA Tournaments, including the first three Regional Championships.
As a junior, she posted her first 1,000-assist season and averaged 10.5 helpers per set. The following year she continued her run, posting 1,045 assists while leading the Captains to the NCAA National Championship match. Overall, she became just the third player in CNU history to eclipse the 3,000-assist plateau. Her game was elevated in the postseason as she holds the Captains' career NCAA Tournament assist record by nearly 300 helpers with 572 assists.
