One of the finest all-around players in CNU softball history, Atkinson becomes the fourth softball player inducted in the last seven years. Inarguably a Hall of Fame talent, Atkinson is one of the most decorated players in program history. The first player in program history to earn multiple All-American selections, and the only to earn first team All-American honors more than once, Atkinson was also a three-time All-Region selection. She picked up Conference Player of the Year honors once and VaSID All-State Player of the Year honors twice.
The honors came after one of the finest careers in any sport at CNU, as Atkinson impressed both at the plate and in the field. The third baseman smashed a program-record 43 home runs and set a handful of other career records including RBI, slugging percentage, total bases, and walks. Defensively, she also wrapped up her career ranked second all-time in career assists, with 357 in 180 games played. Her play helped lead the Captains to national prominence, reaching four straight NCAA tournaments, including a national runner-up finish in her senior season. Atkinson was named to the NCAA All-Championship team following her play in the 2010 postseason.
