JALON BROWN, from Yorktown, was a three-time All-American and one of the top men's soccer players in program history.
Brown recorded one of the most prolific careers in Christopher Newport men's soccer history, and remains the all-time program leader in career points (134) and goals (52). He also was selected conference Player of the Year three times, the first to ever accomplish the feat, while leading the Captains to an overall record of 64-13-10 (.793).
Brown was honored with three straight National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American honors. He is one of just two players in program history to earn three All-American nods. He was also twice selected as an All-American by D3soccer.com, and was also named All-State in each of his four seasons. He became the first Captain to be selected Conference Player of the Year three times, chosen following junior and senior seasons in the Capital Athletic Conference and by the USA South Athletic Conference as a sophomore.
As a senior in the fall of 2014, Brown registered 47 points on 20 goals and seven assists, leading the Capital Athletic Conference in total points and goals scored. He ranked ninth nationally in goals scored and tenth in total points, while leading a record-breaking team offense that ranked third nationally in both categories. The 47-point effort is the second-most in a single season at CNU, as are the 20 goals scored.
During that memorable 2014 campaign, Brown had a handful of truly remarkable individual accomplishments, including a pair of hat tricks as well as five game-winning goals. Twice during the year, Brown etched his name in men's soccer history as he broke the career points scored mark late in the regular season and then took down the career goals scored record in his second-to-last appearance.
With a game-winning header in the second-half against nationally-ranked Whitworth in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, Brown scored his 52nd career goal to stand alone atop the leaderboard and advance the Captains to the Elite 8. Earlier in the season, with his second hat trick of the year, he broke the all-time scoring mark with three goals against Southern Virginia University. At the end of his four-year tenure, Brown set the scoring mark at 134 career points, which stands to this day.
As a senior, Brown helped guide the Captains to the second-most wins in program history, and one of the finest overall marks at 19-3-5 for a.796 winning percentage. He helped the team score three road victories in the CAC Championship Tournament, capturing the first league title for the men's soccer team in the CAC, and led the Captains to their fourth NCAA Tournament National Quarterfinal appearance.
