A record-breaking athlete that has stood the test of time at Christopher Newport University, Clyde Lewis was a four-time All-American during his tenure as a Captain in the mid-90's. Posting a terrific performance during the 1998 NCAA Indoor Championships, Lewis was the national runner-up in the 400M sprint and a part of the national runner-up 4x400M relay. He was the scoring leader for CNU in the program's highest ever national finish with a third-place effort in that meet.

Lewis was a 12-time Mason-Dixon Conference champion as an individual and member of relays, and established the indoor and outdoor program record in the 200-meter. He managed a 22.00 clocking in 1995 to establish the CNU Indoor standard, and finished in 21.05 during the Outdoor portion of the same year. The latter still stands as second on the all-time charts while the Indoor speed is third today, over 20 years later. Lewis still ranks third in the Indoor 400M (49.05) and fourth in the Outdoor 400M (48.21); the 4x400M for both indoors and outdoors remains the top group standard in program history with times of 3:16.86 and 3:10.95, respectively.
