One of the greatest three-point shooters in the history of the NCAA, Chelsie Schweers saw her number raised into the Freeman Center rafters after the most decorated career in Christopher Newport women's basketball history. The lefty shooter hit more three-pointers than any Division III player in history, and ranks second in the NCAA across all three divisions. Her name litters the NCAA record book, including the most trey's in a single season (133), fourth and 17th most points in a single season (870 & 759), and, perhaps the most impressive of all, second in career points at NCAA Division III, with 2,869 points. She is only the second player to eclipse the 2,800-point plateau.
Statistically impressive throughout her whole career, Schweers' was honored for her success like no Captain before her or since. The first four-time All-American in CNU Athletics history was named the Division III National Player of the Year as a senior after leading the Captains to the program's first ever Final Four. She was a four-time State Player of the Year, three-time Conference Player of the Year, two-time Region Player of the Year, and a three-time conference tournament MVP. The 2008 South Region and Conference Rookie of the Year, Schweers was also a four-time first team All-Conference pick. The Captains won 103 games in four years with Schweers leading the way, including three NCAA Tournament appearances. Following graduation, she became the first CNU women's player to play professionally overseas, earning multiple honors for her play in Greece, Iceland and Australia.
