Five Captains Named All-Conference for Women's Tennis

Kim Morrissett named first team All-Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Led by First Team selection Kim Morrissett, the Christopher Newport University women's tennis team hauled in five All-Conference honors, as released by the USA South Athletic Conference.  All six starters were honored by the league, including the All-Sportsmanship team.

Morrissett became the Captains all-time leader in singles victories this year and has picked up 11 wins at the No. 1 position. The four-time All-Conference selection earned second-team honors three times before her first-team selection this season.

CNU picked up a pair of second-team All-Conference honors, as senior Marion Gloor and junior Jodi Noland picked up the nods. Gloor won 12 times in singles play this year, and paired with Morrissett at the top spot in doubles play. The CNU tandem went 14-7 at No. 1 doubles this year. Noland played primarily at the No. 3 singles position, posting 15 wins with eight losses. In doubles, she worked with three different players, including a perfect 10-0 mark at No. 2 doubles with rookie Jackie Gaine

Senior Melisande Downs and sophomore Angela Stallman rounded out the All-Conference selections, with honorable mention picks. Stallman is carrying one of the finest winning streaks in program history into the USA South Tournament, as a winner of 17 straight matches. That mark ranks fourth all-time at CNU.

The sixth starter for CNU, Gaine, was named the All-Sportsmanship team representative for CNU, rounding out six total honors from the league.

The Captains will open play at the USA South Tournament on Friday, April 12 at 1:00 pm against host and 7th-seeded N.C. Wesleyan College.
