NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the second time this spring, Christopher Newport University freshman Jackie Gaine was named the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week. Gaine helped the Captains run their win streak to 11 this week, as CNU went 5-0 on the courts. 

Gaine was a big factor in the dominant stretch this week, going 4-0 in singles play and 5-0 in doubles action. The Norfolk, Va. native played one match at No. 3 singles, winning against Jewel Dale (Averett) 6-0, 6-0, and also picked up three wins at the No. 5 position. Her 6-0, 6-1 win at Bridgewater clinched the match against Olivia Stone. 

In doubles play, she paired with Jodi Noland for five straight wins, stretching their win streak to seven. Gaine has actually won 13 straight doubles matches, including the five this week all at No. 2. The CNU tandem won 8-5 against Meredith, 8-6 against Bridgewater and 8-0 against Peace, Averett and Mary Badwin.

The Captains are back in action April 6 and 7, as they close out USA South play with home matches against Greensboro College and Methodist University.
