NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After a pair of wins at home this week, Christopher Newport University senior
Kim Morrissett was named the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Morrissett had a memorable weekend, taking over sole possession of the all-time wins mark in Christopher Newport women's tennis history.
The senior from Mechanicsville, Va. dropped just a single game in a pair of wins against conference foes this week, playing at the No. 1 position against Maryville and Ferrum. Morrissett picked up wins number 58 and 59, passing Frannie Shivar ('08) for the top spot on the all-time singles wins list. She is now 59-24 in her four-year career at CNU, for a winning percentage of over 71% in singles matches.
Morrissett won 6-1, 6-0 over Kelly Stephens (Maryville) and followed it up with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win against Kaitlin Swann (Ferrum) for the record-breaking victory. In doubles action, she paired with fellow senior
Marion Gloor for an 8-1 win over Maryville and an 8-0 win against Ferrum, both at No. 1 doubles.
She improved to 3-1 in singles and 5-0 in doubles against the USA South this season. Morrissett and the rest of the Captains travel to face Meredith College and William Peace University on Tuesday, March 26.
