NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Senior Kim Morrissett scored a historical win and helped lead the Christopher Newport women's tennis team to a clean sweep of the Ferrum Panthers on Sunday, 9-0. Morrissett picked up career singles victory number 59, passing Frannie Shivar ('08) for the all-time lead in career wins.

The Captains improved to 9-4 overall, 5-0 in league play while the Panthers drop to 2-7, 0-6. Morrissett won at both No. 1 singles and doubles in a chilly, but memorable win.

The day started with Morrissett picking up her 41st career doubles victory, combining with Marion Gloor for an 8-0 win over Megan Martin and Kaitlin Swann at No. 1 doubles. Then, in singles play, the senior didn't surrender a game for a 6-0, 6-0 win over Swann in her record-breaking victory.

It was reported earlier that Morrissett had just tied the all-time record. After a second look, the senior from Midlothian, Va. has, in fact, taken over sole possession of the record.

CNU breezed past the Panthers, getting an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles and an 8-1 win at No. 3. Jackie Gaine and Jodi Noland paired for the win at No. 2, dropping Rebecca Harbeck and Brittany Martin.

Noland joined Morrissett with a clean 6-0, 6-0 win in singles, defeating Megan Martin at No. 3 singles. Gaine and Angela Stallman each only gave up one game, winning at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

Christopher Newport is back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Raleigh, N.C. to take on Meredith at 1:00 pm and William Peace at 5:00 pm.
