DEMOREST, Ga. -- Senior Marion Gloor capped her stellar weekend with two more wins on Sunday, helping lead the Christopher Newport women's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over conference foe Piedmont College. The Captains improved to 7-4 overall, 3-0 in league play powered by the play of Gloor at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Gloor won all six of her matches, combined singles and doubles, on the road this weekend. On Sunday, she paired with classmate Kim Morrissett for an 8-4 win at No.  1 doubles, defeating Chelsea Prince and Meghan Smith. The tandem won their fourth straight match and improved to 6-5 in duals this year. The Captains also got a doubles win at No. 3, as rookie Jackie Gaine played with Angela Stallman for an 8-1 win over Lauren Anderson and Nicole Parrish.

Gaine, like Gloor, was also a double winner on Sunday, picking up a quick  win in singles play. The freshman defeated Ashley Fannon (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 singles, improving to 7-4 this spring. Gloor, at No. 2 singles, also won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) over Prince.

Angie Menendez didn't give up a game at No. 6 singles, stepping in for a win over Parrish (6-0, 6-0). The Captains won five of the six singles matches as Jodi Noland and Melisande Downs also won on Sunday.

The Captains, ranked 13th in the Atlantic South region, will return home next weekend to face Maryville College and Ferrum College on March 23 and 24, respectively.
