LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The 2012-13 women's tennis season begins this weekend, as the Captains travel to the first of two fall tournaments, the Liberty Fall Classic. CNU will compete against NCAA Division I and II players in the individual event, including players from Virginia Tech, Liberty University and Longwood.
Six different Christopher Newport players will compete in the Singles Tournament across five different flights. Senior
Kim Morrissett will play in Flight 3 with an opening round draw against Valerie Thong from the host Liberty squad. Her opening round match will begin at 4:00 pm.
Also competing in the opening round on Friday will be
Marion Gloor in Flight 4, taking on Jordan Kerns from West Virginia State University at 5:30 pm;
Jodi Noland in Flight 5 against Longwood's Hannah Hill at 5:30 pm; rookie
Jackie Gaine in Flight 6 facing Jessie Boda from the host Flames; and in Flight 6,
Melisande Downs and
Angela Stallman will face their opponents with a 5:00 pm start.
Only one match for each player is scheduled for Friday, with both the consolation and championship draws set to continue on Saturday at 10:30 am.
