Volleyball Moves Up to #13 in AVCA Coaches Poll

CNU volleyball went from #15 to #13 in the AVCA Coaches Poll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball team moved up two spots in the AVCA Coaches Poll released today. The Captains are now ranked 13th after posting a 3-1 record during their first week of play.

The Captains started their season with a 3-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan with set scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-17. Two days later the Captains traveled to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for the Juniata College Asics Invitational where they met Juniata, Dickinson and Franklin and Marshall.

The Captains only loss this week came from #2 Juniata with scores of 14-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-25. The following day the Captains beat both Dickinson and Franklin and Marshall in three straight sets.

Leading the Captains this week in kills is Caitlyn Jansen (Lorton, Va.) with 35. Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Ca.) is leading in assists with 103. Abby Hogge (Clifton, Va.) had six service aces and 55 digs for the Captains.

CNU had a total of 157 kills, averaging 12.1 kills per set. The Captains also collected 215 digs, averaging 16.5 per set.

The Captains return to action this weekend at the Trinity Fall Classic in San Antonio, Texas where they square off against Puget Sound, #22 Trinity, Pacific and #14 Southwestern.
