NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The CNU women's lacrosse team, winners of the USA South regular season title for the third straight year, has placed eight players on the all-conference team, with junior
Kaitlin Quigley being named Player of the Year for the second straight season.
Four Captains,
Meghan Harkey, Quigley,
Monica Evans and
Gayle Robinson, were named for the first team.
Quigley, a junior from Round Hill, Va., was the Captains' leading scorer with 49 goals and 17 assists. Harkey, a junior from Purcelleville, Va., was next in scoring with 41 goals and 31 assists for a team high 94 points. Evans, a freshman from Springfield, Va., was a mainstay in the CNU defense along with Robinson, the goalie, a senior from Reston, Va., who made 85 saves in helping CNU to a 9-4 regular season record.
Chosen to the second team were
Becca Geist and
Morgan Layton. Geist, a freshman from Fairfax, Va., had 16 goals and 11 assists while Layton, a junior from Ocean City, Md., also helped key the CNU defense.
On the honorable mention list were
Alyssa Burke and
Rachel Tomlinson. Burke, a senior from Fairfax, Va., had 15 goals and three assists while Tomlinson, a freshman from Springfield, Va., contributed 13 goals and 11 assists.
CNU, the top seed, opens play in the USA South Tournament Friday at 1 p.m. against Ferrum.
