NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- CNU sophomore goalkeeper
Meghan Gumbs (Mastic, N.Y.) was named the USA South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, after posting a pair of shutouts in leading CNU to a 2-0 mark last week.
Gumbs had a sensational day between the pipes on Wednesday, as she made 10 saves against Salisbury University for the clean sheet. The biggest save came in the first half as the Sea Gulls were awarded a penalty kick, but Gumbs made a diving save to her left to stop the attempt. Several times she was one-on-one with the attacking player and made big saves for the Captains.
She would add three saves against St. Mary's College (Md.) in her second shutout of the week. She has five shutouts this season and saw her season goals against average drop to its lowest this season, at 1.96.
