CNU Captures State's All-Sports Survey

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport’s Department of Athletics captured the 2008-2009 Virginia Sports Information Directors All-Sports Survey.
The Captains won 69.2% of its athletic contests this past season. It’s the fifth time since 2000-2001 that CNU has captured the award. It’s also the first time since the 2004-2005 season that Christopher Newport has won the award, which consists of a survey that ranks all 27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage.
CNU swept the overall, men’s and women’s rankings. The women won 73% of its contests and the men finished with a percentage just under 64. Washington & Lee finished second in the women’s and in the overall category while Bluefield was second on the men’s side.
Southern Virginia led the state in national tournament appearances with nine, with the Captains just behind with eight, a new school record, and Washington & Lee finished third with seven.
Christopher Newport finished 226-99-6 (69.2%) for the year. The men were 87-48-5 (63.9%) while the women finished with an overall record of 139-51-1 (73%).
