NEW ORLEANS, LA – Former Christopher Newport track & field star Sheila Trice was recently inducted into the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division III Hall of Fame.

Trice was a member of the CNU track & field squad from 1987-1990. She’s the most decorated athlete in NCAA Track & Field history as she finished her career with 32 All-American honors and 15 national championships. Twelve of those were individual titles while three came on relay teams.

She won her first title in 1987 as a part of the 4x100 meter relay team. She won four more in 1988, six in 1989 and four in 1990. Trice won eight of her titles in the indoor season and the other seven came during the outdoor seasons.

At the 1989 indoors, she won four events. The only other athlete to win four events at a single track national championship was Jesse Owens. Trice personally outscored every other school at the meet.

She still holds the school record in the 55 meter dash (6.80) and the 55 meter hurdles (8.00). She’s third all-time in program history in the long jump, fourth in the triple jump, and fifth in the 200 meter dash.

Trice will be enshrined along with Kiyomi Parish Griffey, Sandu Rebenciuc, and Derrick Rippy on Wednesday, May 20th, at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center on the campus of Marietta College in Marietta, OH.
