Women's Lacrosse To Host Mary Washington In First Round NCAA Match

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport’s women’s lacrosse squad will host the Eagles of Mary Washington Wednesday. Game time will be set Monday.

The Captains are 13-6 heading into the NCAA Tournament. They reached post-season play by capturing their fourth USA South Tournament title crown. It’s the fourth straight appearance for CNU in the NCAA Tournament.

The Eagles are 13-7 entering NCAA play. UMW is coming off a 16-8 loss in the Capital Athletic Conference championship to No. 1 Salisbury. Mary Washington received an at-large bid into the 2009 NCAA Tournament. This is the seventh appearance in the past 10 years for the Eagles.

Christopher Newport and Mary Washington have met five times, including once already this year. The Eagles defeated CNU, 18-10, back on April 8 in Newport News. UMW leads the all-time series, 5-0.

The winner of this match will take on the winner of Messiah vs. Catholic on Saturday at Salisbury University.
