STARKVILLE, MS – Two Christopher Newport softball players were named First Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Earning First Team accolades were third baseman Jessie Atkinson and designated player Taylor Morgan.
Morgan, the USA South’s Player of the Year, finished the year as the team’s leading hitter with a .439 average. She also paced the Captains with 47 hits and 12 doubles. Morgan, a First Team All-USA South pick, scored 14 runs, had one home run and drove in 28.
Atkinson, another First Team All-USA South choice, hit .365 with 42 hits and 24 runs scored. She shattered the school record for home runs in a season by belting 14. She also led CNU with 44 RBI. Atkinson was also named to the USA South’s All-Tournament squad.
Christopher Newport finished 36-9 and tied the school record with 36 wins. CNU was 17-1 in conference play and captured the USA South regular season and tournament titles.
