Morgan Named USA South Player Of The Year, Parr Named Coach Of The Year, 11 Named All-Conference

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport softball player Taylor Morgan was named the USA South Player of the Year and she was joined on the All-Conference teams by 10 of her teammates while Head Coach Keith Parr was named USA South Coach of the Year.

All eight position starters, as well as the team's designated player and both starting pitchers were named to the all-conference team.

Morgan, a Chesterfield, VA native and starting first baseman, led the conference in hitting with a .542 average. She also leads the USA South in on-base percentage (.583) and in doubles (12). Morgan has driven in 25 runs, scored 13 more, drawn 10 walks and hit one home run. She finished with a .563 average in conference play with 18 RBI and 11 runs scored. She was also named First Team All-USA South.

Parr, in his fifth season at the helm, captured his third USA South Coach of the Year honor. He has guided CNU to a 31-5 record overall and a 17-1 mark in USA South action. It's the program's 16th regular season crown, including seven in the 2000's.

Joining Morgan on the first team were second baseman Katie Moyers, third baseman Jessie Atkinson, shortstop Mary Kennedy, utility player Kristin Nickloy, outfielder Ashley Mani and pitcher Kristen Rowe.

Moyers is hitting .381 with 37 hits, 23 runs, eight doubles, three home runs and 23 RBI. Atkinson smashed the school record for home runs in a season this year with 13, breaking the old record of nine. She's currently hitting .394 with 37 hits, 22 runs, nine doubles and a team-best 38 RBI. Kennedy is hitting .359 with a team-high 17 steals. She's scored 24 runs and has 37 hits.

Nickloy is hitting .427 with 35 hits, 17 runs, four home runs and 26 RBI. Mani is second on the team in average, hitting .456 with 36 hits and a team-high 30 runs scored. She also has six doubles, five home runs and 31 RBI. Rowe is 17-1 in the circle with a 1.85 ERA, nine complete games and two saves. She's tossed 98.1 innings, walked 31 and struck out 93.

Catcher Renee Ashworth and outfielder Emily Garcia were named second team.

Ashworth is hitting .453 with 29 hits, 21 runs, six doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI. Garcia is hitting .431 with 28 hits, 14 runs, and 14 RBI.

Earning third team honors was pitcher Lindsay Kelly. She's 11-4 in the circle with a 2.79 ERA, four shutouts, and 59 strikeouts in 90.1 innings of work.

Outfielder Megan Morris was named Honorable Mention All-USA South. The Mathews, VA native is hitting .292 with 26 runs, 26 hits, seven doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.

Shenandoah's Katie Haskins was named Pitcher of the Year, Greensboro's Rebecca Pink was named Rookie of the Year and the Hornets Brooke Over was named Rookie Pitcher of the Year.
