Schweers Named South Region Player Of The Year

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Christopher Newport women's basketball player Chelsie Schweers was named the D3hoops.com South Region Player of the Year.

Schweers led the Captains in scoring, averaging 21.9 points. She also averaged six rebounds a game, dished out 84 assists and had 83 steals. She shot 50% from the floor, 41% from behind the arc and 88% from the free throw line. She also became the second player in program history to score 1,000 points in two seasons. She now has 1,240 points in her first two seasons as a Captain.

She was a First Team All-USA South pick in 2008-2009. Schweers was named the USA South Tournament Most Valuable Player, guiding her team to a win over Greensboro in the championship and a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Schweers was named the South Region Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-South choice by D3hoops.com in 2008.
