NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Fourth Annual Lacrosse for Smiles Tournament, hosted by the Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team, was the most successful ever, raising just under $9,000 for Operation Smile.
Operation Smile is a worldwide charitable organization that provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the globe. Since its founding, Operation Smile volunteers have provided medical treatment to more than 130,000 children. Operation Smile is headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia.
CNU hosted the four team fall play day at Old Redskin Park in Northern Virginia on October 11. Joining CNU in the play day were Mary Washington, Moravian and St. Mary's. All participating teams directly contributed to the day's fundraising efforts with the host Captains leading the efforts by collecting over $1500 in donations and pledges.
TripleEDGE Lacrosse served as the title sponsor for Lacrosse for Smiles for the fourth consecutive year. To date, the event has raised nearly $32,000 for Operation Smile.
“We really appreciate the support and efforts of our sponsors, participating teams and their fans,” commented CNU Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Chris Swanenburg. “Because of their generosity we are able to improve the lives of many deserving children who are far less fortunate than we are.”
