FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., - The USA South has chosen seven CNU athletes among its weekly Athletes of the Week.
Five were named Players of the Week.
Football kicker Matthew Bourne was chosen Special Teams Player of the Week after hitting three of three field goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime against Shenandoah. He was also 3-3 on PAT attempts.
Winston Matthiesen was named soccer Player of the Week. He scored a goal in No. 3-ranked CNU’s 2-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan and had the only goal in a huge, 1-0, road win over No. 4 York (Pa.).
Goalkeeper Matt Tengs was also named Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in those two contests.
Cross country runners Corey Lofton and Amy Wampler were also chosen Runners of the Week for their efforts at the Division I George Mason Invitational. Lofton finished 34th among 109 runners, while Wampler was 38th of 86.
Two other CNU athletes were named Rookie of the Week.
Volleyball player Kara Elder was recognized for averaging 3.5 kills and 1.8 digs per set in four wins over USA South opponents.
Cross country runner Aaron Zook took 64th place at the George Mason meet.
