Men's Soccer Clinches USA South Regular Season Title With 5-2 Win at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. - Winston Mattheisen scored two first half goalsand helped lift CNU's seventh-ranked men's soccer team to a 5-2 win at Ferrum Saturday. The victory gave CNU an unbeaten conference season and the No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament.
Mattheisen scored in the 29th minute on a pass from Michael Zimmerman and then scored again in the 39th minute unassisted.
The Captains led 2-1 at the half, but got goals fromNao Masuda,just 45 seconds after the half began, and,Brian Lybert less than three minutes later to build the margin to 4-1. Steven Farmer closed the scoring in the 48th minute.
The Captains, now 16-2, get a first round bye in the conference tournament. The final four will be held in Martinsville, Va., Friday and Saturday
