NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Both the CNU men's and women's basketball teams have been chosen by their respective USA South panel of coaches to win the conference regular season championships. The polls of the two coaches groups were released by the conference Wednesday.

  The men are coming off an 18-9 season in which they tied for the regular season title a year ago. CNU returns three starters and a total of four double figure scorers from that squad. The Captains open at Roanoke on Nov. 15.

  The women have their top six scorers back from last year's USA South championship team that posted a 22-7 record and appeared in the NCAA tournament. That squad featured a total of only four years of collegiate experience combined, and now has a year under its belt. The women open their season at home against Lynchburg on Nov. 18.

  Both teams will kick off their seasons at Midnight Madness, which will take place Friday night at the Freeman Center at 10 p.m.
