NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For the first time in Christopher Newport athletic history the school has a No. 1 ranked team. The men's soccer team moved to the top of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll that was released Tuesday.
The Captains have an 11-1 record. Following two victories last week CNU ascended to the top spot when previously No. 1 ranked Messiah lost to York (Pa.), a team Christopher Newport had beaten.
In a somewhat puzzling move, d3soccer.com moved Ohio Wesleyan ahead of CNU in its poll, despite the fact that the 12-0-2 Bishops' two ties came against teams with a combined record below .500.
CNU resumes action Wednesday when it hosts Shenandoah at 7 p.m.
