KENOSHA, WI – Christopher Newport senior pitcher Kenny Moreland added one more award to his mantle as he was named the American Baseball Coaches Association's Pitcher of the Year.
Moreland received five first-place votes. He was named the D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year, ABCA First Team All-American, D3baseball.com First Team All-American, the ABCA's South Region Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-South. He was also honored as the USA South's Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-USA South choice.
Moreland finished the year 13-0, setting a new school record. He struck out 116 batters with a 1.97 ERA as opponents batted .198 against him. Moreland finished his career as the program's all-time leader in wins and strikeouts.
Moreland headed to Florida for a week-long minicamp as he signed a professional free agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
