STERLING, VA – Christopher Newport women’s basketball player Chelsie Schweers was named Honorable Mention All-American by D3hoops.com this weekend.
Schweers becomes the first All-American coached by current Head Coach Carolyn Hunter. She’s also the first All-American in program history since Misty Hart was also named Honorable Mention in 1998.
Schweers led CNU in scoring, averaging almost 22 points per game. She set school records in three-point field goals in a season (80), in a game (10), three-point percentage in a game (.833) and in a season (.452).
She was also named the Player and Rookie of the Year in the USA South, the first time a player has taken home both awards in the same season. Schweers was also named First Team All-USA South and was also a First Team All-Region choice. Schweers was also named the South Region's Rookie of the Year.
She helped lead the Captains to a 21-7 overall record and 14-4 in the USA South. Schweers led CNU to a second place finish in the regular season and a spot in the USA South Tournament Championship.
