MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Christopher Newport's cheerleading squad placed third at this year's College Open Nationals held this past weekend.

This year's hosting Cheer Company was Cheer Ltd.

The Captains qualified by placing in the top three at last year's Nationals as well as finishing second at the regional qualifier held this past fall.

The University of Maryland won the event. Rounding out the top five was Newberry College in second, CNU in third, James Madison placed fourth and Virginia took fifth.

The Captains finished second at Nationals in 2007.

Christopher Newport finished 1.5 points away from finishing in second.
