Volleyball Receives First National Ranking, 25th In Preseason AVCA Poll
LEXINGTON, KY – Christopher Newport’s volleyball squad, coming off one its best seasons in program history, is ranked 25th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Preseason Top 25 poll, the first time the team has ever nationally ranked.
The Captains finished 33-7 overall and a perfect 18-0 in the USA South in 2007. The squad won the USA South Tournament, earning another bid into the NCAA Tournament where they defeated Salisbury in the first round for the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament win.
CNU will play the top three ranked teams, Juniata, Washington (MO) and Emory. Also on the schedule and nationally ranked, are Puget Sound (7th), Cal St. East Bay (12th), and Pacific Lutheran (14th).
Christopher Newport kicks off the 2008 season Saturday, August 30, when they travel to Oregon to play in the Boxer Kickoff Invitational.
