Women's Lacrosse To Host Catholic In A First Round NCAA Match
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport’s women’s lacrosse squad was rewarded with a first round NCAA Tournament game to be played Wednesday against Catholic, the NCAA announced Sunday evening.
It is the first time in the program’s history that CNU has hosted an NCAA Tournament game. Christopher Newport enters the tournament with a record of 13-5.
The Captains and Cardinals (15-4) met during the regular season, with Catholic winning, 17-14. CUA led 13-6 at the half and Christopher Newport out-scored the Cardinals, 8-4, in the second half for the final margin. Catholic defeated Goucher in the Landmark Conference championship while the Captains defeated Greensboro in the USA South Tournament title match.
This is the third straight year CNU has won the USA South Conference Tournament and received the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Christopher Newport is 0-2 all-time in NCAA play.
Wednesday’s meeting will be the sixth all-time, with the Cardinals leading the series, 5-0.
The winner of this match will meet the winner of Rowan and Montclair St. at Salisbury on May 10 at 2:30 pm.
