2008 CNU Football Schedule Released
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics C.J. Woollum and Head Football Coach Matt Kelchner today announced the release of the school’s 2008 football schedule.
The upcoming season will be the eighth since the inception of the football program at CNU, and the Captains will again have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation.
“We’ve added two excellent programs to our non-conference schedule,” Kelchner said. “Wesley will be a very tough opener and Wilkes has also been a solid program over the years. Combined with the USA South slate, 2008 will be a tremendous challenge.”
The Captains will open the season at POMOCO Stadium on the Christopher Newport campus on Saturday, September 6, hosting Wesley College of Dover, Delaware. It will be the first meeting ever with the Wolverines, and the game will be the 75th in CNU football history. The Captains have posted a 49-25 record over the first seven seasons for a winning percentage of .662, and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times in the first seven seasons.
CNU will then play three straight road games, including non-conference battles at Salisbury (September 20th) and Wilkes of Pennsylvania (September 27th). The Captains open USA South play at Shenandoah on October 4th.
Christopher Newport will then host Greensboro on October 11th during Family Weekend at CNU. Following a trip to Maryville, Tennessee, on October 18th, the Captains then host Methodist on October 25th at POMOCO Stadium.
CNU concludes the regular season with three games in November. On the first of the month, the Captains travel to Rocky Mount to take on North Carolina Wesleyan. Christopher Newport then hosts Averett (November 8th during Homecoming Weekend) and Ferrum (November 15th) to conclude the regular season.
